News worthy events:
Post 47's rivival has been very successful. We were able to sign 64 members and transfers from other posts, in the past few months. Ongoing efforts to recruit new members continues. In the mean time we are quite pleased with the number of initial members.
We meet the 3rd Wednesday of each month at the Tillamook, Elks club at 1907 3rd Street, Tillamook, Or.
Recently we had a booth at the Tillamook county fair and were happy to sign some new members.
We had representatives at the 80th celebration of Hangar B. This hangar is a blimp hangar dating back to WWII. It houses among other things a collection of vintage airplanes.
An unexpected donation of a vintage Korean War era Jeep took place. We are planning on using it for honor guards, parades and celebrations.
Our post participated in the Trooping of the colors at the Tillamook rodeo.
We have created a facebook page as well as this website.
Historical information:
American Legion post 47 has a long history and has been involved in the area for many years. Intitial creation of the post was by WW1 veterans in 1920. For many years the post was active in the community and made many contributions to the Tillamook area. However, declining active membership in the past few years caused the post to cease operations. This year the American Legion held an event to try and revive the post. The effort was a success and the post now has 56 members.
Interesting note to the reactivation efforts. Upon reactivation it was found that no one knew where are the old records were until mysteriously they appeared on a members doorstep.
The gratitude corner:
We wish to thank the Tillamook Elk's club for it's generous doncation of it's faciilities for our meetings. Thank you also for those members who gave extra cash to the post over and above membership dues.
Membership information:
Due's have been set at $50 a year.
